Arts preview: "Alton Brown Live" features comedy and, hopefully, exploding food

Jesse Tigges, Columbus Alive

Pure and simple, Alton Brown (writer, producer and host of "Good Eats") is the most affable of cooking celebrities.

His quirky humor and endless knowledge of food, its history and science, mixed with an aw-shucks personality make him incessantly likable.

When his live show comes to Columbus on Friday for "The Edible Inevitable Tour," foodies and fans of a good time should all be in attendance.

The show features a mix of stand-up comedy, talk show antics, a multimedia lecture, live music - Alton sings! - and extreme, bizarre and potentially messy food experimentation.

The first few rows will be provided with ponchos, so you know what that means. Exploding foodstuffs?

There's also an interactive component where select audience members will be brought on stage as assistants. Oh, and there could be a puppet Alton popping up too
