Staff pick: Impractical Jokers might be juvenile, but it's damn funny

I was recently turned on to truTV’s “Impractical Jokers” by a friend, and it’s rare that my cynical TV critic heart is actually impressed when someone says, “You have to check this show out.” “Impractical Jokers” turned out to be one of those rare occasions.

The series stars The Tenderloins, a comedy troupe whose sole goal is to embarrass and humiliate each other with “pranks.” The basic idea: One of the four members must head out to a public forum and do whatever the other three come up with.

This includes starting the wave at a baseball game with the chant, “Let’s get sexy.” Or walking a dog dressed as a cowgirl while wearing a matching cowboy outfit — complete with ass-less chaps. Or dipping your French fries into someone else’s ketchup at the mall food court without them noticing. (Package bulges help.)

Yes, all of this sounds juvenile, and it is, but it’s still damn funny. The Impractical Jokers Tour is a twist on the TV series’ format with a mix of stand-up, never-before-seen hidden camera videos, stories and insight into the making of the show. Whatever happens, it should be funny.
