GCAC awards over $2.9 million to local arts organizations

The Greater Columbus Arts Council announced today it approved $2,960,250 in grants for 28 Columbus arts organizations. The funds for these GCAC grants were received from the City of Columbus through the hotel/motel bed tax.

According a press release from the GCAC, "Under the grants guidelines, nonprofit arts organizations of any budget size that meet the eligibility criteria can qualify for unrestricted Operating Support funding. Applicants must demonstrate exemplary artistic achievement and significant impact on the city's economy and tourism, as well as fiscal responsibility."

Of the 28 institutions receiving support, three new groups were approved this year in Glass Axis ($15,000), Short North Stage ($20,000) and Wild Goose Creative ($5,000). Grants amounts range from $5,000 to $250,000 with seven organizations receiving the maximum in BalletMet, CAPA, COSI, Columbus Museum of Art, Columbus Symphony Orchestra, Franklin Park Conservatory and Wexner Center for the Arts.
