Theatre preview: Short North Stage's "Sunset Boulevard" promises to be spectacular

The Short North Stage kicks off its 2014-15 season with one of its most ambitious productions yet. Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Sunset Boulevard,” based on the Oscar-winning 1950 classic noir film by Billy Wilder, had its Broadway premiere in 1994 and took home multiple Tony Awards. “Sunset Boulevard” is the tale of an up-and-coming screenwriter who’s tasked with crafting a script for the reclusive star of yesteryear, Norma Desmond. Naturally, murder, romance and backstabbing ensue.

The Short North Stage production — which reduces the ensemble from the Broadway version’s 26 to 13, in order to fit with the intimacy of the theatre — will be the first performance of “Sunset Boulevard” in Central Ohio, and promises to be spectacular, living up to the previous iconic iterations. Get ready for your close-up, Columbus.
