Festival preview: Nine reasons to enjoy the Ninth Annual Ohioana Book Festival this weekend
Nine reasons to attend the ninth annual Ohioana Book Festival, held Saturday (from 10 a.m. to 4:30p.m.) at The Sheraton Columbus at Capitol Square.
New date and location! The Ohioana Book Festival is the last weekend in April, and has moved downtown (from Fort Hayes, where it was held for the last few years). If the weather plays nice, you can wander the Columbus Commons and grab a coffee from Cup O’ Joe downtown before or after.
Thefestival is completely FREE, which means …
… more top-notch book-shopping at the day-long book fair. There will be more than 100 authors selling and signing their books, like Dayton author Ryan Ireland whose “Beyond The Horizon” just came out.
Thirty(!) different panels to attend throughout the day. Bop around to some of these intriguing-sounding discussions. Be sure to check out “The Power of Words” (with David Baker, Kazim Ali, Darren Demaree and Larry Smith) at 10:15, “The Creative Life” (with Jeffrey Ebbeler, Ann Hagedorn, Celeste Ng and Michael J. Rosen) at 12:45, and “Fiction By Women: Unique Voices & Visions” (featuring Celeste Ng, Thrity Umrigar, Shari Goldhagen and Leah Stewart) at 3:15.
Plenty of local love, with panels like “Ohio Stories: Columbus Landmarks” at 11:30, and “Scenic Ohio: Through the Eye of the Camera” at 2.
Authors spanning nearly every genre imaginable: poetry, memoir, journalism, sci-fi, fantasy, mystery, young adult/children’s fiction and photography.
A Children’s Activity Room (running all day) with crafts, games and visits from children’s authors and illustrators.
Festival season is now in session! The Ohioana Book Festival kicks off a number of literary and arts events happening around the city in spring and summer: the Columbus State Writers Conference (on May 2) and Columbus Arts Festival (June 12-14) are just around the corner.
Leave feeling inspired and rejuvenated. Just LOOK at how many people in your community care so passionately about reading and writing.
