Inked-up enthusiasts from across the nation are set to descend on Columbus as the Hell City Tattoo Festival rolls into the Hyatt Regency Columbus (350 N. High St.) on Friday, May 1 with a bevy of internationally renowned tattoo artists, live entertainment and fine art. Hell City has grown in both size and scope every year since its inception in 2002, and this year’s event is no exception. With events ranging from live music to tattoo seminars to fine art and tattoo competitions, casual collectors and high caliber artists alike are in for a weekend of devilish fun.

“Tattoo artists are artists overall,” Hell City founder and organizer Durb Morrison said. “Hell City is about painting a positive light on tattooing, and creating a family-friendly atmosphere geared toward the tattoo community.”

Even if you aren’t planning on getting inked at this year’s Hell City, there will still be plenty to see. Check out the Hell City documentary in the tattoo theatre, participate in one of the tattoo competitions (including the newly added “new school” category), catch The Girls!, Blatant Finger andThe Do-Goods on the main stage, or hit up L.A.-based freak show St.Wonder Machine. For artists, mingle with celebrity tattoo artists like Big Gus (from Spike TV’s “Tattoo Nightmares) or learn a new technique at one of the seminars. To accommodate more vendors, artists and artwork, the fest has commandeered a second ballroom at the Hyatt Regency Hotel that will house live painting and fine-art shows from participating tattoo artists.

On Saturday night, join CD102.5 and all fellow “hellions” at the hotel bar for a nightcap and “Hellywood” photo.

“Hell City is a unique art event in Columbus, and one hell of a party,” Morrison said. “Come with an open mind and be prepared to have a great time.”
