Strike a pose: Four unique looks in this year's CCAD Senior Fashion Show

Jesse Tigges, Columbus Alive

Columbus is quickly becoming a fashion hub, if it's not one already, as stated by a handful of national publications, reinforced by the stable of yearly events - Alternative Fashion Week, CMH Fashion Week, Fashion Meets Music Festival - and exemplified by the ever-growing number of local designers and boutiques presenting unique styles to the city. While this coalescence of factors shows Columbus' burgeoning presence in the fashion world on a macro level, a group of CCAD fashion design students are poised to make their own impact.

Each year a bevy of talented and hardworking designers come out of the downtown art school's fashion program, many making their looks public for the first time at the CCAD Senior Fashion Show. There's no shortage of inventive, compelling and striking designs in this year's showcase, which takes place on Friday, May 8 - as each and every participant put forth their best effort in creating fresh, chic looks.

Four such designers - Sarah Ribble, Derek Fergusson, Caroll Kern and Maya Eigel - are featured here, and each exhibit a line that's as arresting as it is accessible. There are some similarities in their approaches; three designers were inspired by trends and fabrics of yesteryears, while all incorporated accessories and individual details as indispensable elements and spoke about seeking versatility in their garments. But these are only minor components to the complete looks, where the biggest similarity is an unmistakable spirit of imagination and originality.
