Staff Pick: Paging Columbus: Pushing the Envelope

Jim Fischer

The latest edition of Paging Columbus, an every-other-month celebration of the spoken and written word, will highlight the rebellious, the radical and the righteously indignant.

Check this intro from founder/director Hannah Stephenson: "Calling all rule-breakers. Status quo-shakers. Risk-takers. Callers out of fakers." Old-school Pat Benetar-esque assonance aside, you get the point. For "Pushing the Envelope," Paging Columbus plans some boundary-stretching stuff.

Messing with the margins will be creative nonfiction authors Tammy Birk and Katie Annarino, and poets Ethan Rivera and Donora Hillard. Birk is Assistant Professor and Director of Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Otterbein University. Annarino is an adjunct faculty member at Columbus State. Rivera has represented Columbus multiple times at National Poetry Slam, and was a finalist in 2011. He hosts the weekly Writing Wrongs Poetry Slam at Ruby Tuesday. Hillardis a published playwright and poet and punk pedagogy expert. Her pending poetry collection is titled "Jeff Bridges." It's about Jeff Bridges.

Stephenson, who writes the blog "The Storialist," began hosting these events at Urban Arts Space in 2011.
