Arts preview: "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom"
Short North Stage continues its yearlong August Wilson Festival with the only one of Wilson's Century Cycle not set in Pittsburgh. The play tells the story of a 1920s-era Chicago recording session by Ma Rainey and her band and the personality clashes that make the process a challenge. Issues of art and religion stand alongside an examination of the historic exploitation of black artists by white music producers. Wilson expert Mark Clayton Southers returns to Short North Stage to direct this local cast.
