Arts preview: Patricia Dominguez: "Eres Un Princeso"

Jim Fischer

The Pizzuti Collection will present an exhibition by emerging Chilean artist Patricia Dominguez through Sept. 24.

Supporters of the Collection visited Dominguez' studio during a trip to Chile last summer, and were moved by her work to bring both art and artist to Columbus. Dominguez herself will present a program June 10 at Pizzuti Collection.

"Eres Un Princeso" is a video installation piece concerning Spanish horses owned by drug lords in Colombia. The piece, which features both performance and images created by the artist, examines the relationship between these almost-mythical beasts and both their owners and those tasked with caring for them.

"You can trace Colombian history through these horses," Dominguez said. Their appropriation by drug lords represented a kind of second colonization of the South American nation, she explained.

This work represents a new phase in Dominguez's work. It is now the first of an intended trilogy using both storytelling and horses.
