Arts preview: 'Last Words'

Jim Fischer

Eileen Woods' "Last Words" is inspired by actual last words of the dying, the words inscribed on textile-based mixed-media pieces that have been treated, worn and adorned with accessories. The text is not necessarily the focus of each piece, but rather the metaphorical torn fabric. Words come from, among others, classic writers Victor Hugo and Virginia Woolf, a death row inmate, a hospice patient and Eric Garner, who died in a 2014 confrontation with a New York City police officer ("I can't breathe").
