Arts preview: "Night and Day"

Jim Fischer

You've watched and been fascinated by the alternately sweeping and sudden movements of flocks of starlings (even if you didn't know they were starlings), right? So had BalletMet Columbus Artistic Director Edwaard Liang, whose new piece, "Murmuration," is inspired by the birds' group flight motions.

Nature provides the guiding theme for each of the three pieces featured in "Night and Day," BalletMet's fall performance. Alongside "Murmuration" are the classic George Balanchine piece, "Serenade," and Val Caniparoli's West African dance-meets-Bach work "Lambarena."
