Arts preview: Dead Poets Night

Jim Fischer

For 30 years or so, the Poetry Forum has presented its annual Dead Poets Night. A deviation from its standard readings featuring original work of local poets, this night offers readers the opportunity to share the work of some of their favorite poets, with the qualifier that said poet be dead.

Readers are encouraged to come dressed as the poet of their choice, although co-organizer Steve Abbott said this practice has waned in recent years. Still, Abbott said, the event keeps audiences "aware of poetry as part of a long tradition."
