Exhibition preview: 'Visions from India' at the Pizzuti Collection
“Visions from India,” the latest offering from the Pizzuti Collection, provides insight peculiar to the circumstances in that vast and changing nation, and also a broader perspective.
“These artists are part of the global contemporary art scene,” said Curator Greer Pagano. “These are artists who are dealing with universal questions: technology, the environment, gender, spirituality.”
Highlights include Sudarshan Shetty's works of repurposed teak wood and his clever mixed-media piece featuring a ceramic pot and electricity; Vibha Galhotra's “Beehive,” an installation inspired by “a polluted river and the question of how we destroy the things we need to survive,” Pagano said; and Subodh Gupta's moving (literally) piece.
Attendant programming throughout the exhibition (it continues through Oct. 28) will include meditation and yoga, dancing and music and a number of artist talks.
