Exhibition preview: 'Configurations'
Retired CCAD professor Bruce Robinson is among Columbus' fine and respected artists. His paintings, woodwork and mixed-media creations have been shown around the world.
Robinson's work generally evolves from a combination of two touchpoints: issues of concern to the African-American community and the artist's passion for experimentation. “Configurations” is no different. These plywood paintings and mixed-media works find Robinson exploring his use of materials as well as his process. The result is a vibrant and tactile experience for the viewer.
According to the artist, these pieces each address the issue of transformation in some way. This discussion is held both as it relates to the physical material in the work itself as well as the subject matter, again, often social issues confronting the African-American community.
“Configurations” closes this weekend. Also on exhibit at the Cultural Arts Center is “Kaleidoscope,” a collection of student work from programs of the Columbus Recreation and Parks Department.
