The List: The definitive ranking of brothers

Erica Thompson
Actors Shawn Wayans (right) and his brother, Marlon

Inspired by Joel and Andy's cover story on the beloved music venue Little Brother's, I ranked well-known, real-life siblings.

12. The Jonas Brothers

This generation's Hanson, but with less talent and nothing as iconically annoying as “MMMBop.” I'm still cringing from the group's performance with Stevie Wonder at the 2009 Grammy Awards.

11. Charlie Sheen and Emilio Estevez

A retired warlock and Paula Abdul's ex-husband walk into a bar …

10. Alec and Stephen Baldwin

I'm kinda over Alec's Trump impression, and the last time I paid attention to the Trump-loving Stephen was when he starred on “I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!” in 2009. (I was bored that summer.)

9. K-Ci & JoJo

The most recognizable members of R&B super-group Jodeci went on to massive success as a duo. Anyone else remember being awkward at school dances as “All My Life” played in the background?

8. John and Robert Kennedy

Not too high on the list because I don't like to romanticize politicians, but they inspired hope in some for the time they were allowed to live.

7. Huey and Riley Freeman

Gotta love the brothers in Aaron McGruder's “Boondocks” comic strip and TV show. The extreme differences in their personalities are on full display as they engage with Werner Herzog on “It's a Black President, Huey Freeman,” one of the most brilliant episodes of the show.

6. The Wayans

From “I'm Gonna Git You Sucka” to “Fifty Shades of Black,” you have to admire the family's nearly 30-year commitment to parody films.

5. Eddie and Charlie Murphy

Though Eddie is the unequivocal superstar, Charlie (rest in peace) carved out his place in pop culture with his “True Hollywood Stories” on “Chappelle's Show.”

4. Doobie Brothers

So they are not actual brothers and I can only name Michael McDonald. That greatest hits album, though.

3. The Jackson 5

The group that produced a string of classic hits and one of the greatest entertainers who ever lived. I always felt bad that MJ was forced to tour with his brothers in 1984 while he had the biggest-selling album at the time. Also, leave Tito alone.

2. Mario Bros.

Waiting for one of these arcade bars to host a “Super Mario Bros. 3” tournament so I can make my mark in this city.

1. The Nicholas Brothers

You probably don't know who they are, so Google “Nicholas Brothers in Stormy Weather” and tell me that's not talent.
