"Untitled Film Still #58" by Cindy Sherman

Since the 1970s, photographer Cindy Sherman has addressed issues of identity and popular culture in her work by insinuating herself into the images, albeit not as herself.

“I wanted to do a show that was a comprehensive survey of her work but that also focused on one specific aspect — in this case, the cinematic aspect of her work, because so much of her work deals with mass media and representation, and many of our stereotypes come from movie culture,” said Philipp Kaiser, who curated the exhibition for The Broad museum in Los Angeles.

The Wexner Center will host this exhibition through Dec. 31.
