Arts preview: Art of Recovery 2017

Columbus Alive
“Spike” by Kristin Morris

This annual fundraising event benefits Fresh A.I.R. Gallery, a program of Southeast Inc., an agency serving individuals with mental illness or substance abuse disorders. The gallery displays the work of artists who have been affected by these conditions.

The event will be held Friday, Nov. 3, at the Columbus Museum of Art and will feature an untitled work by the late Denny Griffith as its signature piece for a live auction. Additionally, the work of Columbus sculptor Kristin Morris will be on view in the gallery during Art of Recovery and will remain on display through Nov. 17. “By the Sea” is inspired by Morris' experiences scuba diving and snorkeling, and features playful creatures in typical Morris fashion — make-believe characters that are part fish and part … something else.

“It is exciting having my work up at the same time as the fundraiser,” Morris said. “The Fresh A.I.R. gallery has been an incredible experience for me and I am so happy that I am able to be a part of it all.”
