Staff Pick: 90s Night with Nickelodeon’s Pete and Pete at Bossy Grrl’s
“The Adventures of Pete & Pete” only aired for three seasons on Nickelodeon beginning in 1989, but the series remains a cultural touchstone for those of a certain age (read: people in their 30s) nearly three decades later.
The show's appeal rests in its surreal approach to storytelling, a colorful cast of recurring characters (eccentric superhero Artie, the Strongest Man in the World, for one) and a roster of special guest cameos that can turn each episode into a game of “Did you see?” (Debbie Harry, LL Cool J, Michael Stipe, etc.). Plus, the soundtrack was legit great, with a theme song courtesy of Mark Mulcahy side project Polaris and episodes featuring the music of everyone from Luscious Jackson to the Magnetic Fields.
Co-stars Michael Maronna (Big Pete) and Danny Tamberelli (Little Pete) will both be on hand for 90s Night at Bossy Grrl's on Saturday, Sept. 15, which will feature script readings, trivia, a meet and greet and more. Sadly, the evening probably won't include Little Pete lobbing creative insults as he often did onscreen: “Read it and weep, fungus lick.”
