Four artists known primarily for their mural work will show their paintings inside the gallery space at Blockfort starting this weekend. While the show focuses on the fine art practices of this quartet, the group was still hoping to paint on the gallery walls at last check.

“Of Giants and Men,” organized by Akron-based painter Monster Steve, formerly of Columbus, features the work of two other Columbus expats, Dave Tevenal and Scott Santee, and Detroit muralist Malt. The show opens Saturday, April 6, and continues through April 28.

“We all come from this similar, weird background — a sort of alternative scene — and we all found a niche in the art community,” Steve said. He added that while folks in these four artists' circles know about their gallery work, he intended this show to provide an opportunity for the quartet to “experiment and have a little fun.”

Santee did just that, painting on medium-density fireboard for the first time, which he said made the colors pop.

Steve said his recent work combines chaos and tranquility, inspired by his daily headphone-less runs.
