Daily Distraction: Get 'Blue' with Joni Mitchell
Listen to a new 'Blue 50' demo EP, released to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the landmark album
There has been no shortage of coast-to-coast, Blue-related content this week, with a lengthy feature in The New York Times and a rare interview with Joni Mitchell herself conducted by Cameron Crowe for The Los Angeles Times.
The outpouring is timed to the 50th anniversary of Mitchell's Blue, which critic Robert Christgau once described by writing, "This battlefront report on the fitful joys of buy-now pay-later love offers an exciting, scary glimpse of a woman in a man's world."
To further mark the occasion, five previously unreleased demos and outtakes from the album have been released today as part of a digital EP called Blue 50 (Demos & Outtakes). These songs will also be included on the forthcoming Joni Mitchell Archives Vol. 2: The Reprise Years (1968-1971), a compilation due out in October. Give the songs a listen below.
