Awesome alert: Ray Ray's to start slinging chicken wings six days a week at Ace of Cups
If you've been on the patio at Ace of Cups in the past week or two, you've probably noticed this awesome wooden sign and gotten excited. If you haven't but love meat, you probably should get excited.
Starting this Saturday, May 11, Ray Ray's is bringing the wings - and not just on the weekends.
We just featured the much-loved (for good reason) food truck's cozy connection with the Old North bar. It's about to get better, with the addition of a walk-up wing shack open six days a week.
I make regular pilgrimages to AoC on Sunday's for Ray Ray's killer grassfed beef brisket, but I'm dying to try the wings, which have previously only been available on the two chicken wing-iest days of the year: Father's Day and Super Bowl Sunday.
Ray Ray's mastermind James Ray Anderson shared why his wings are special. "My wings are first smoked, then fried … the best of both worlds." On top of that magnificent meat, you can get a buffalo wing sauce that placed second in a national competition … in Buffalo, N.Y., where they seem to know a thing or two about wings. Other sauce offerings include Sriracha Barbecue and Habenero Likker, or you can opt for one of three dry rubs: House Shake, Hot Habenero or Jerk.
Also available will be $4 orders of tostones, fried plantains served with sriracha mayo which Anderson calls "the best plantains you ever tasted." A pound of wings (8-9) will run you $8, and you can chow down in a newly constructed dining area above the bar.
Wings will be available inside the bar Tuesday through Sunday from 5 to 10 p.m. The patio stand will be operated Friday through Sunday from noon to 8 p.m.
And loyal fans of Ray Ray's Hog Pit, fear not. The truck will continue to operate with its full barbecue menu Friday through Sunday.
