A couple of big announcements in the world of movie-theater dining today in Columbus ...

First, it was just announced today that Columbus restauranteur extraordinaire Liz Lessner will be opening a new concept inside the Gateway Film Center on July 1. No details yet on concept or menu, but we're looking forward to see what the mind behind Betty's and Dirty Frank's has up her sleeve for the movie-going crowd. Gateway Film Center President Chris Hamel calls it "the perfect marriage between two local businesses."

In somewhat sadder news, it was announced that the Arena Grand Theater will be closing Monday and undergo renevations before reopening late this summer as part of the Dallas-based Studio Movie Grill, which operates theaters which offers moviegoers a full menu of dining options. Similar options have popped up in Columbus, including dine-in theaters at the AMC Easton.

The good news is that downtown will keep a movie option, but I'm sad to see the independently owned Arena Grand our readers have repeatedly voted the best movie theater in Columbus will be no more.
