Zaftig Brewery is hosting a party with barrel-aged beers and ugly sweatersfrom 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.Saturday, Dec. 6. They’re serving up three big beers at the event: a spiced Christmas Ale, a bourbon barrel-aged version of the Wee Heavy, and the Zaftig Bourbon Stout, aged in Watershed bourbon barrels. Pitabilities food truck will be on hand, too, serving up gyros at the brewery (545 Schrock Rd., Worthington). Anyone wearing any ugly sweater will get a $3 discount off his or her beer.

This week it was announced that the Jury Room, recently sold by the Columbus Food League, will be renamed and re-opened as a new concept called Balls. The restaurant space has been taken over by Joe and Mary Jo Milano, owners of Caffe Daniela (now closed) and Villa Milano banquet and conference facility in Worthington. Playing off the name, Milano will feature a menu of ball-shaped entrees with different types of meats and vegetables, incorporating them into a variety of dishes.

Laughlin’s Bakery is set to open at Holiday Hop this Saturday, Dec. 6. Owner Jonas Laughlin and his team raised the capital through Kickstarter to transform his home business bakery into a retail storefront at 15 E. Second St. Until now, his baked goods have been available at area restaurants and at pop-up bake shops around town. The bakery menu features layer cakes, muffins, scones, tarts, cookies and tea cakes.

The Whitney House restaurant is coming soon to Old Worthington in the former P.K. O’Ryan’s space at 666 High St. The restaurant will serve lunch, dinner and weekend brunch, all with an eclectic menu featuring Italian specialties like meatballs and pasta, Latin American dishes like tostadas and chilaquiles, Asian eats like ramen, and good old-fashioned American classics like burgers and meatloaf.

Nada Restaurant will be opening soon at 220 W. Nationwide Blvd. in the Arena District. Although an exact opening date hasn’t been set yet, the Cincinnati-based restaurant is set to open by the end of the year. Nada’s menu features a range of Mexican dishes, from Mexican Mac N’ Cheese to tacos with pork belly or barbacoa, to adobo-rubbed pork chops.
