Food News: Nada turns patio into outdoor lodge for All-Star weekend

This weekend Columbus hosts the NHL All-Star Game. Expect to see a lot of special food-related events. Nada in the Arena District is hosting Apres Skate, an outdoor lodge on their patio complete with fire pits, blankets and specials on Mexican beers, Tinga Mexican stew and spiked hot chocolate.

The inaugural Columbus Craft Beer Week has been announced for May 1-9 this year. The event will include tastings, tappings, collaborative brews and all sorts of special events. It culminates in Six One Pour on Saturday, May 9 at the Brewmasters Gate in the Brewery District.

To celebrate its 60th anniversary, The Top Steak House is hosting special events and menus throughout 2015. Each month, Chef Denver Adkins is creating a prix-fixe menu of $60 for two, offered Wednesday through Sunday all month. They’re also serving cocktails themed for each decade of The Top’s existence, and in April some guests will get a chance to order from the original 1955 menu, complete with 1955 pricing.

Forno Kitchen + Bar opens Friday, Jan. 23 at the corner of N. High St. and Buttles Ave. in Short North. Owned by the crew behind The Pint House, Forno takes its name from Italian for “oven,” and will feature oven-roasted dishes.

Mikey’s Late Night Slice wraps up its run at Woodlands Tavern on Saturday, Jan. 24. They said the decision was made “mutually and amicably,” as both companies move on to other ventures.

Wolf’s Ridge Brewing opens its taproom to the public on Friday, Jan. 23. The taproom is located at the back of the building, and will offer 20 taps plus bar snacks.

Sideswipe Brewing is holding its one-year anniversary party on Saturday, Jan. 24, complete with special brews on tap, tours and a food truck. Sideswipe expanded its taproom hours to 5-9 p.m. Thursdays and 5-10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.

Sassafras Bakery in Worthington expanded its menu to include sandwiches and salads, including turkey, pork and vegetarian jerk mushrooms sandwiches, and faro and roasted carrot salads.

On Monday, Jan. 26, Chipotle is encouraging visitors to try its new sofritas (marinated tofu) for meatless Monday. Anyone who purchases a sofritas dish on Monday can use their receipt to get a free entrée over the next month.
