Food News: Four String expands

Patio weather is officially upon us! New patios like those at Condado Tacos and OddfellowsLiquor Bar are now open.

Columbus Craft Beer Week wraps up this Saturday, May 9 with Six One Pour, a beer festival hosted at Brewmaster’s Gate in the Brewery District. The festival includes beer sampling, food from Chipotle and live music. The seven collaboration beers specifically created by local breweries for the week will all be featured that night.

Last week Four String Brewing announced it’s expanding to a 25,000-square-foot facility on the West Side. The new space will house a 30-barrel brewing system, a laboratory and a new canning line. Four String owner Dan Cochran said the current brewery and taproom in Grandview will remain open and be used for seasonal and specialty brews. Cochran also announced the hiring of Larry Horwitz as their new brewmaster.

Crimson Cup Coffee announced a second coffee shop in Upper Arlington at 2468 Northwest Blvd., in a former Peet’s Coffee space.

Scottish brewery BrewDog said it’s hoping to finalize details on the site of its U.S. production brewery in Columbus this week.

Hyde Park restaurants announced the Stack City Burger concept coming to the former Cup O’ Joe space on the 670 cap in Short North.

Mashita Noodles closed its downtown pop-up to shift on the mobile food season.

In case you missed it, Meatbar closed last month, with another pop-up for the space at 122 S. High St. being announced soon.

Fast-casual sushi restaurant Fusian is aiming to open its Easton restaurant in early June, while a Grandview location is slated for August.

The FLIP Food Experience fundraiser is Wednesday, May 13 at VUE in the Brewery District. The healthy-eating event includes food, cooking demos, an interactive chef battle and wine pairings. Ticket proceeds go toward cancer-prevention programs.

ECDI and Foodfort are hosting a fried chickenthrowdown on Thursday, May 14. Three restaurants — Queens Table, The Rolling Kitchen and The Modern Southern Table — are competing for the best southern fried chicken. The ticketed event includes fried chicken samples, live music and arcade games from Old North Arcade.
