Food News: La Fogata to vacate Short North spot in 2016
La Fogata in Short North announced they will be closing next April when their lease expires. Citing a raise in rent, La Fogata owner George Tanchevski said he plans to move the concept elsewhere, although he has not specified where. Cincinnati-based Thunderdome Restaurant Group, which owns Currito near campus and Bakersfield in Short North, said they plan to open a Southern-themed restaurant and beer bar called The Eagle in the place of La Fogata. The Eagle has one location in Cincinnati's Over-the-Rhine neighborhood. The Thunderdome owners said they plan some major renovations to the restaurant space and patio.
Little Eater Produce & Provisions opened late last week at North Market. It takes the place of the Greener Grocer, which closed last December. The produce stand is maintained by Cara Mangini, owner of the veggie-focused Little Eater stall that opened last fall.
Downtown Venezuelan eatery Casa Sazon has closed. The owners indicated a possible move to another location but have not specified one yet.
Two new convenience stores are coming to downtown this year. The first, Nelson's Convenience Store, will open later this summer at 155 W. Nationwide Blvd. in the Arena District. The second, as yet unnamed, will open in the Atlas Building at N. High and E. Long streets this fall.
The Brass Tap, a craft beer bar and restaurant at Polaris Fashion Place, is set to open on Monday, July 20. Brass Tap will feature a pub menu plus 80 beers on tap, with at least 35 of them dedicated to local beers.
Celebrate Local, the Easton storefront dedicated to all Ohio-made goods, including snacks, coffee, beer and wine – announced they are adding a second location in the Liberty Center in Liberty Township, north of Cincinnati.
