Food News: Local Cantina opens in Brewery District; Jonathon Sawyer eyeing Italian Village

Cleveland chef Jonathon Sawyer plans to build a restaurant in the new Burwell Heights development at Summit Street and Fifth Avenue in Italian Village. The development has yet to break ground. Sawyer has previously discussed opening a location of his Japanese ramen shop Noodlecat in Columbus, although there's no word if the Burwell Heights space will be filled with that restaurant or another concept.

The founders of Scottish brewery BrewDog, James Watt and Martin Dickie, will speak at the Winking Lizard at 1380 Bethel Road this Friday, Oct. 9 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. A variety of BrewDog beers will also be on hand for purchase. BrewDog is getting ready to break ground on its U.S. production facility in Canal Winchester.

The newest Local Cantina opened at 743 S. High St. in the Brewery District. This is the fourth location, joining restaurants in Grandview, Gahanna and Clintonville.

The food truck Nothing But Nadas has hit the streets of Columbus, serving empanadas filled with ingredients like beef, chicken and chorizo.

Middle West Spirits has unveiled some of the additions to its Short North production facility, including a 55-foot still. Middle West is also building a storage facility in Milo-Grogan.

Slow Food Columbus hosts the Taste of the Midwest II dinner at Gallerie Bar & Bistro on Tuesday, Oct. 13. The ticketed dinner benefits the Slow Food in Schools program and supports Central Ohio delegates heading to the 2016 Terra Madre conference in Italy. Featured chefs come from Gallerie Bar & Bistro, Wolf's Ridge Brewing, Angry Bear Kitchen, Kraft House No. 5 and G. Michael's.

Vegetarian Indian restaurant Gokul Cafe opened recently at 2685 Federated Blvd. in Dublin.

Kindred Artisan Ales will open as a brewery and taproom at 505 Morrison Road in Gahanna later this year.
