Roundup: Win-win brewery/food truck pairings
With spring in full swing, we're busy flocking to patios for food and drink. And when it comes to dining outdoors, we're particularly fond of Columbus breweries that team up with local food trucks. Breweries can offer food without having to build out a kitchen, food trucks earn a captive audience for their eats and you - the customer - benefit from both. Here are five pairings worth exploring while the sun's out. (Word of warning: food truck schedules are subject to change.)
Seventh Son Brewing with Challah and Baba's Porch
Seventh Son's Italian Village taproom rotates through a large selection of food trucks, but Challah and Baba's are much-loved regulars. The ample patio space is ideal for noshing on sandwiches of all sorts. Pair any Seventh Son IPA with a crispy chicken sandwich from Challah or a loaded corn dog from Baba's. Also: Sunday brunch from Challah is a must.
Zauber Brewing with Explorers Club
Explorers Club has taken up permanent residence at Zauber, so you can always enjoy the mofongo and grilled meatloaf sandwiches, huevos rancheros and soft pretzel twists on the spacious patio. All are ideally paired with Zauber's Berzerker Belgian IPA or classic Vertigo Hefeweizen.
Kindred Artisan Ales with Aromaku and Aloha Streatery
Kindred is one of the new kids on the block. The brewer is just getting started, having invested in a barrel-aging program to produce sour beers, but it's already churning out hits like the Kindred Wit and Salvage Porter. The brewer has also made its Gahanna taproom a cozy hangout by inviting a variety of food trucks to dish out eats. Indonesian-themed Aromaku serves up Bakmi Ayam noodles and chicken or Rendang stew, while Aloha favorites include rice bowls and pork belly buns.
Four String Brewing with Ajumama
Four String has actually grown out of its Sixth Avenue taproom in Grandview, moving all production to a new facility on the West Side (which has its own taproom, by the way). Friday nights you can usually find Columbus favorite Ajumama parked at the Grandview taproom, so you can pair a Switchblade IPA with bibimballs or bulgogi cheesesteaks.
Land-Grant Brewing with Flat Top Pizza and OH! Burgers
In a short span of time, Land-Grant has endeared itself to Columbus beer drinkers, rolling out a diverse selection of beers that fill grocery store shelves and round out tap lists citywide. Land-Grant's beers are fitting companions to easy-to-like food truck menus like Flat Top's creative and easily shareable pizzas or OH! Burgers' sliders and chips.
