Roundup: Pizzas to pique your interest

Harvest Pizzeria

We've got it good when it comes to pizza in Columbus. Traditional or funky, New York or Chicago-style - we're covered. If you want to keep things interesting, or you're simply jonesing for a unique slice of Columbus pie, give one of these five a try.

Taco Pizza, Villa Nova

Columbus natives probably have fond memories of visiting Villa Nova, with its kitsch-lined shelves and inexpensive beer list. Among the more traditional pizza offerings is the beautifully messy taco pizza. The pie is generously topped with beef, refried beans, cheddar, tomatoes, lettuce and taco sauce. It's impossible to eat without making a mess of yourself, but you won't regret a single bite.

Spicy Chicken Corn Chowder, Yellow Brick Pizza

Yellow Brick is known for its creative pizzas (plus the superb beer selection and Arcade Super Awesome upstairs). Of the signature hand-tossed pizzas, the Spicy Chicken Corn Chowder stands out. A combination of chicken, corn, kale, mozzarella, roasted red peppers and red onion is given an added Cajun seasoning kick.

Barry White, Bono Pizza

Despite the odd location and occasional service quirks, Bono remains a pizza lover's hidden gem. Favorites include the fiery Cherry Bomb, with habanero and Thai hot sauce, and the loaded Five Cheese. The Barry White is a light-colored concoction with feta, gorgonzola, mozzarella, olive oil, parmesan and onions.

Spicy Yuma, Harvest Pizzeria

Harvest often tops lists of the city's best pizzas, with creations ranging from the meat-centric Ohio Double Bacon to the clam-topped Geary Street. The Spicy Yuma pulls its heat from jalapeno, chorizo and a chipotle-spiked tomato sauce, in addition to corn, red peppers and a flavorful blend of Gouda and Havarti cheeses.

Bay Harbor Butcher, Mikey's Late Night Slice

Anyone familiar with Mikey's knows its rotating selection of specialty pizzas. (This writer's favorite was the Walter White, a white sauce pizza with blue sprinkles made to coincide with the "Breaking Bad"finale.) The latest is the "Dexter"-themed Bay Harbor Butcher, loaded with ham, mustard, pickles and tomatoes.
