The puck drops on Oct. 13 for the Columbus Blue Jackets' season, so prepare for the flood of hockey fans set to gather at Nationwide Arena to support their hometown team. If you're headed to the Arena District this season, begin or end your festivities by hitting up one of these nearby spots.

Gordon Biersch has loosened the reins on its brewers in recent years, allowing local brewmasters to diversify the portfolio of available beers. In addition to signature Czech lagers and German Hefeweizens, Columbus' Gordon Biersch now offers visitors a selection of IPAs, pumpkin ales, blonde ales and more. They're all good for pairing with the eclectic pub menu of tacos, fish and chips, German sausages and steaks.

Nada's colorful digs are an ideal backdrop for exploring its Mexican-inspired menu of barbecue pastor tacos, braised chicken enchiladas and Mex'orean fried chicken. If you're looking to experience some version of Canadian cuisine in celebration of hockey season, check out Nada's Mexican Poutine with red potatoes, braised pork, fried eggs, salsa and cheese. At the very least, don't leave without a margarita or two, or a sip from the wide selection of tequilas. Bonus: It offers enough patio space to enjoy a couple cervezas while the weather is still good.

The upscale digs of Elevator Brewery have long been a popular hangout before and after Blue Jackets games. It's hard to beat a round of billiards and a pint or two of the house brews. Sample your way through the fish and chips, the Bott Burger or the signature Rock Filet, which comes out with a sizzling hot rock on which you cook your own meats to your preferred doneness. Buy a pint of the monthly beer special and after 12 months you'll get a souvenir pint and a Masters of Beer Appreciation certificate to mount on the wall.

161 N. High St., Downtown

Get your bison on at Ted's! Located right across the street from the Arena, Ted's focuses mainly on classic comfort foods like roasted turkey with dressing, steaks, prime rib and crab cakes, in addition to a mainstay menu of burgers. But bison remains the major theme throughout, from the bison burgers and bison meatloaf to the bison pot roast and bison short ribs.

Stack City is an easy walk from the southern tip of the Short North to the Arena District, and a burger and shake makes a suitable warm-up to the game. Start out with wings, sliders or onion rings, and then choose from one of 10 house burgers, from the Big Stack City with cheese, lettuce, pickles and special sauce, to the Cowboy with jalapenos and smoked bacon. Don't forget a shake, too. Your best bet is the signature Biscoff shake. Pro-tip: It's worth springing for the shot of bourbon.
