Roundup: Five Spots to take in Red, White & Boom

Milestone 229

Columbus' annual Independence Day mega-celebration takes place Monday, July 3, with more than 500,000 people crowding the Downtown riverfront for patriotic partying galore. If you're headed to the festivities, try camping out at any of these spots for great food and drink.

Milestone 229

Milestone's patio offers one of the best views Downtown, and there's no doubt it'll be a hotspot for Red, White & Boom. The giant, curving patio faces the Bicentennial Park fountains and the riverfront, making it the optimal place to take in the fireworks while you sip cocktails and dine on shrimp and grits, braised short ribs or fried perch.

Strongwater Food & Spirits

Located on the west side of the river in Franklinton, Strongwater is a short walk from the riverfront and close enough to catch most of the fireworks action. The restaurant and bar features a menu of sandwiches, burgers, tacos and small plates, with many dishes easily converted to vegan and gluten-free tastes.

Land-Grant Brewing Company

Land-Grant's Franklinton taproom, just across the street from Strongwater, offers a relaxing taproom, plus big patio space. Work your way through the selection of beers on tap, and grab dinner from the food truck parked outside.

CBC Restaurant

Situated at the western end of the Brewery District, CBC Restaurant offers hearty pub fare like pretzel bread, wood-fired pizzas and jambalaya. Choose from a solid selection of Ohio brews, such as Columbus Brewing Company, Commonhouse Ales (brewed next to the restaurant), Four String and Jackie O's.

Platform Beer Co.

Platform is somewhat removed from the Red, White & Boom action, but it debuts a new rooftop patio during the extended holiday weekend. You can enjoy a new view of the city skyline while you sip a pilsner, the white IPA or any of the specialty project-series brews.
