Food News: Blue Danube to close in June; BrewDog Franklinton opens

The Blue Danube Restaurant, a Campus-area icon located at 2439 N. High St., will close on Father's Day, June 17. Affectionately nicknamed “The Dube,” the restaurant opened in 1940. According to the Columbus Dispatch, the property's owner, Margetis Investments, will renovate the space and reopen a similar concept.

BrewDog USA, which is headquartered in Canal Winchester, opens its Franklinton brewpub on Friday, May 11, on the heels of opening its Short North bar last month. The grand-opening event kicks off at 11 a.m. The new pub, complete with rooftop patio, is located at 463 W. Town St., just across the street from Land-Grant Brewing Co.

The Ohio Craft Brewers Association's Columbus Craft Beer Week kicks off Friday, May 11, and runs through May 19. The week's signature event,Six One Pour: The Ohio Craft Beer Fest, takes place 6-9 p.m. Saturday, May 12, at Huntington Park and features samples from 55 Ohio craft breweries. Last weekend, Alchemyopened a second location at 1439 Grandview Ave., formerly Phy Phom Pho. Open daily, the health-conscious cafe offers smoothies, smoothie bowls, avocado toast, sandwiches and grain bowls. Brunch is served Saturdays and Sundays.

Owner Esteban Macias opened Tio's Tacos & Tequila this week Downtown at201 S. High St. The Mexican spot offers tacos, enchiladas, fajitas and more, plus a full bar.

The owners of Branch, formerly Biscuit & Branch, have rebranded the Short North restaurant again.Westies Tavern opened at 685 N. High St. last week, making it the third Westies location in town. The spot serves pub fare like nachos, wings, pizzas and burgers, plus weekend brunch.

Condado Tacosplans to open two more locations in Central Ohio this fall. A Polaris location is projected to open across from Ikea, and Condado Dublin will join the Bridge Park development.

OpenTable released its list of the “100 Best Brunch Restaurants in America for 2018” as voted on by OpenTable users.Lindey's was one of two Ohio restaurants to make the list.
