Food News: Cameron Mitchell celebrates 25 years; Jury Room returning as event space

Cameron Mitchell Restaurants celebrates its 25th anniversary this week. Restaurateur Cameron Mitchell opened his first restaurant, Cameron's American Bistro, in Worthington on Oct. 5, 1993.CMR will celebrate the silver anniversary on Friday, Oct. 5, with a day of philanthropy; the restaurant group plans to make a donation to the Mid-Ohio Foodbank, provide box lunches to Serving Our Neighbors (SON) Ministries and the Homeless Families Foundation and CMR associates will serve hot meals to local shelters throughout the day. CMR also announced that Mitchell's new book, Yes is the Answer. What is the Question?, will go on sale Nov. 13.

The Jury Room is returning to its former home, the historic building at22 E. Mound St. near the Franklin County Courthouse in Downtown. The historic location's most recent tenant,Blind Lady Tavern, closed in August. Liz Lessner's bar, The Jury Room, occupied the space from 2010 to 2014. The new reincarnation of The Jury Room is owned by Megan and Mark Dempsey, owners ofDempsey's Food & Spirits, located around the corner.Megan says the new business will serve as an event space for private dinners, receptions, meetings and other functions.

Last week,Preston's: A Burger Joint officially took over the kitchen at Woodlands Tavern, located at 1200 W. Third Ave. in Grandview, making it the fourth location of the burger joint from chefs Catie Randazzo and Matthew Heaggans. This marks the end (for now) of Randazzo's Challah!, the Jewish deli-inspired food truck and kitchen inside Woodlands. “Don't worry, it's just a break. Challah! will be back,” Randazzo said in a press release. Preston's is open for dinner daily at Woodlands Tavern.

Alive's sister publicationColumbus Monthly is hosting its inauguralBest Restaurants Dinner on Tuesday, Oct. 30, to celebrate its annual 10 Best Restaurants list. The multicourse dinner at The Estate at New Albany will showcase some of the city's top kitchens, including Wolf's Ridge Brewing, Veritas, Watershed Kitchen & Bar, Refectory Restaurant and Wine Shop, The Guild House and more. for more information.

Franklinton'sRed Door BBQ, the Cypress Avenue carryout spot for barbecue ribs and soul food, launched a food truck last week.

After giving dinner service a try for several months, Baba'shas returned to breakfast and lunch hours. Its new hours are 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Tue.-Sat. and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Sun. Co-owner/chef Dan Kraus is adding a few new lunch items, includingthe Big Bad Wolf, a favorite sandwich from his former food truck, That Food Truck, plus ricotta fritters and smoked meats like ribs and chicken.
