Food News: Somewhere in Particular opens; Ohio’s Liquor Control calls Last Call

Somewhere in ParticularBrewing Co., aka SIP, opened this week at 5055 Dierker Rd. on the Northwest Side. Owners Joe Casey and Nikki Gallo opened the 2,500-square-foot brewery, taproom and beer garden next to the historic Henderson House, which dates back to 1900, according to the Franklin County Auditor's Office. SIP's permanent brewmaster is gypsy brewer Pat Sullivan (aka Charlie Navillus), who has brewed under his own brand, Nowhere in Particular.

Ohio's Division of Liquor Control is openingLast Call, a temporary liquor outlet that will sell clearance inventory. The store, which is a pilot program for the state agency, will open Oct. 18-21 and Oct. 25-28 at the former Giant Eagle at 777 Neil Ave. in Victorian Village.

Seventh Son Brewing Co. is hosting a book release party Friday, Oct. 19, for Phaidon's new guide,Where to Drink Beer. The event takes place 5-8 p.m. in the brewery's upstairs bar. Copies will be available for purchase.

The Columbus CommonsFood Truck Food Court has two more Thursdays left in the season: Oct. 18 and Oct 25. There are 10 trucks in total, including this month's featured food trucks En Place American Bistro and Maanas.

If you're up for a road trip, theOhio Craft Brewers Association hostsAle-O-Ween this Saturday, Oct. 20, at Dayton's new downtown venue The Steam Plant, 617 E. Third St. The Halloween-themed event takes place 6-9 p.m. andfeatures beers from 40 Ohio craft breweries, live music, food trucks and more. Costumes are encouraged.

The Columbus Blue Jackets announced a new multiyear partnership withNorth High Brewing. As part of the club's Movember campaign to raise funds and awareness for men's health issues, North High has released North High Stick, a limited-release amber ale with a portion of proceeds benefiting the Movember Foundation. Former Cosecha Cocina chefSilas Caeton was recently featured on the Cooking Channel show “The Best Thing I Ever Ate!” The episode, which featured Caeton's homemade salsa, will air again on Nov. 4. Caeton left Cosecha this year to become a partner atThe Lox Bagel Shop, opening soon in the Short North.
