Food News: Ambrose and Eve opens; Barcelona chefs depart to begin new venture

Ambrose and Eve held its grand opening Tuesday, Nov. 27, at 716 S. High St. in the Brewery District. The restaurant serves brunch 11 a.m.-3 p.m. daily and dinner 5-10 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Alive editor Andy Downing followed owner/chefs Matthew Heaggans and Catie Randazzo in the 18 months leading up to the opening of their first brick-and-mortar restaurant.

It's the end of the road for longtime campus barMama's Pasta and Brew, whichcloses this week at23 Campus Pl. to make way for development. Its last day of operation is Friday, Nov. 30.

Barcelona ownerScott Heimlichannounced this week that two of his longtime chefs, executive chef Jacob Hough and executive sous chef Patrick Marker, are leaving the German Village restaurant to open their own concept in the University District. According toThisWeek News, the duo plans to open Alqueria at 247 King Ave., formerly The Angry Baker. Taking over the executive chef position at Barcelona is Julian Menaged, whose resume includes stretches at 101 Beer Kitchen, The Refectory Restaurant & Wine Shop, Spagio, The Crest and others. Stepping into the executive sous chef role is Stephanie Kincaid, a Barcelona veteran who currently serves as its pastry chef.

Beer Barrel Pizza & Grillopens its second Central Ohio location on Tuesday, Dec. 4, at 3993 Morse Crossing at Easton Market. The new restaurant and bar will feature a 300-seat dining room, patio, full bar and a wood-burning fireplace. Beer Barrel first opened in 1965 in Lima, Ohio, and serves a menu of American fare, including scratch-made pizzas. Its Hilliard location opened in 2016.

Sunrise International Marketannounced the opening of two new eateries inside the global grocery at 4030 W. Broad St.Kitchen Uno, an Asian-style buffet, opened earlier this month. Meanwhile,Paco's Ricas Botanas, serving Latin American fare, will join the market soon.

Via Vecchia Wineryannouncedplans to relocate its winery and events business from the Brewery District to the South Side early next year. Via Vecchia's new home will be The Fort, an expansive commercial space located at 2108 S. High St.

Taste Bay International & Caribbean Foodis now open at 1132 W. Henderson Rd. The menu includes tostones, mofongo, mojarra frita, jerk chicken and more.

In December, Columbus Brew Adventures and Columbus Food Adventures are collaborating on a newHoliday Cheer Tour through the Short North. The 3-hour tour is a chance to enjoy the festive decor along High Street while sampling seasonal adult beverages and foods. Visit to reserve your spot.
