Party Planner: New Year's Eve roundup

Erica Thompson
Land Grant

Listen, we know you could watch Florida Georgia Line on “Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve” from the comfort of your couch. But hasn't 2018 been painful enough? Show your local bars and venues some love by attending one of these NYE events.

New Year's Eve at Brothers Drake

6 p.m. – 2:30 a.m.

26 E. Fifth Ave., Short North

You customize your Netflix queue, Spotify playlist and Facebook friend list. Why not customize your New Year's Eve celebration? For those who want to celebrate on London time (ball drops at 7 p.m. EST), Brothers Drake is providing an early jazz show, complete with a buffet dinner and drinks. Those in a New York state of mind (ball drops at midnight) can come at 9 p.m. for a show featuring Parker Louis, Bohno and Sarob, one of Alive's 2018 Bands to Watch. And if you're feeling really festive — do both!

LG x Strongwater: Hoppin' New Year's Eve

5:30 p.m. – 2 a.m.

401, 424 W. Town St., Franklinton

Two Franklinton powerhouses join forces to provide you with an unforgettable New Year's Eve experience. Start at Strongwater Food and Spirits for a five-course dinner, featuring poached shrimp tosta, marinated grilled lamb (vegetarian options also available) and beer pairings from Land-Grant. Then, walk over to the brewery for dancing and, of course, more drinking.

Spacebar's NYE Party

9 p.m. – 2:30 a.m.

2590 N. High St., Old North

Back in February, electro duo Damn the Witch Siren celebrated the release of its new record, Real Magic, at Spacebar. So it's only fitting to have the Columbus band back to the Old North venue to wrap up 2018. You can also catch rock group the Turbos, and sing along with Smashing Pumpkins covers by Other People.

New Year's Eve 2018 Dinner at Union

5 p.m. or 8 p.m. seating

782 N. High St., Short North

And you thought brunch was delicious at Union Cafe. Expect a tasty three-course dinner to support your NYE drinking in the Short North. We hear they've got a choice of chicken cordon bleu, lemon caper salmon, filet mignon and a vegan falafel platter. And we're sure special guest Laila McQueen is gonna kill it!

New Year's Eve at ShadowboxLive

8:30 p.m.

503 S. Front St., Brewery District

Are you a New Year's Eve traditionalist? If so, sign up for dinner, dancing, party favors and the classic champagne toast at Shadowbox Live's Main Stage. House band BillWho? supplies the tunes. If you're looking for something a little different, head to the Up Front space for the completely improvised “TBD: The Musical,” followed by Excesss Karaoke.
