Food News: Hang Over Easy opens in Olde Towne East; China Dynasty to close

Hang Over Easy, known for dishing up breakfast and lunch classics like pancakes and burgers, opened a new location last week in Olde Towne East at 51 Parsons Ave., formerly Black Creek Bistro. This is the diner's third location, including the flagship restaurant at 1646 Neil Ave. in the University District and one in Cincinnati. The new spot in OTE has added dinner to its offerings.

China Dynasty Arlington, which has operated at 1689 W. Lane Ave. for 32 years, will close this spring. Its last day will be Mother's Day, May 12.ThisWeek Community News reports that the restaurant's lease will be up for renewal soon, and the co-owner's mother, who is the restaurant's head chef, plans to retire.

The Angry Baker, known for its vegan breads and pastries, opened a location this week in Upper Arlington. The new coffee and pastry shop at 1962 N. Mallway Dr. is the bakery's third location in Central Ohio.

The North Market announced last week that the family-owned Somali restaurantHoyo's Kitchen will join the market this spring in the space formerly occupied by Better Earth. This will be the second location for Hoyo's, which has served the North Side community since 2014.

Tony Tanner, owner of The Butcher & Grocer, announced last week that he's partnering with La Tavola's Rick and Krista Lopez on a new Grandview restaurant calledThe Old Spot. The new butcher-sourced spot will replace Harvest Tavern & Pizzeria, which closed in late February at 1099 W. First Ave.

The Short North is getting a country music bar. Bristol Republic is expected to open next month at 1124 N. High St., formerly Basil. The new restaurant and bar from Brian Swanson (Bodega) will offer an extensive whiskey selection and barbecue from Smoked on High.

Perhaps to no one's surprise,Blasted Barley Brewing Co. will not be opening in the Highpoint on Columbus Commons development at 160 S. High St. Although construction started on the brewpub in 2017, it mysteriously ceased last year.The Arizona Republic reported this week that the Blasted Barley location is tied up in an alleged fraud scheme by an Arizona businessman with mafia ties. Development firm Robert Weiler Co. confirmed toColumbus Business First that the deal is off.

Pickerington's Combustion Brewery & Taproom (80 W. Church St.) is hosting thePick Ohio Beer Festival on Saturday, March 23. The event will offer the chance to sample special releases and “rarely seen” brews from several Ohio breweries, including Jackie O's Brewery (Athens), Wolf's Ridge Brewing (Columbus), Branch & Bone Artisan Ales (Dayton), Earthworks Brewing (Heath) and more. Tickets can be purchased at combustionbrewing.com. The event benefits Seeds of Caring.
