Roundup: New tastes for spring

The move into a new season often brings with it new menus, seasonal offerings and specialty releases. We rounded up a handful of flavors and activities you can enjoy this spring, from cocktails to new dishes.

High Bank Distillery

Earlier this week, High Bank Distillery rolled out a spring menu that introduced 20 new items. At the same time, the business released its first whiskey, Whiskey War. The new menu includes updates like curry-roasted cauliflower, grilled Amish chicken with white barbecue sauce glaze, cornmeal-battered Wagyu beef hot dogs and much more. Diners can also enjoy new cocktails like the pineapple chili margarita and a peach julep.

Wolf's Ridge Brewing

In addition to seasonal creations from the kitchen, Wolf's Ridge is set to release three sours this month. On Saturday, April 6, the brewer will release a special variant of the Terre du Sauvage Red, an oak-fermented farmhouse sour brewed with rye. Then on April 20 it will offer up the Red Legacy Flanders-style red sour and the Terre du Sauvage Green, an oak barrel-fermented and dry-hopped farmhouse sour. Bottles will be released exclusively at the taproom, while a larger selection of sours will be available on tap.

Ambrose and Eve

Ambrose and Eve recently got a much-deserved shout-out from New York Times travel writer Sebastian Modak. Modak featured Ambrose and Eve alongside Service Bar as two of his Columbus dining highlights. A&E has been teasing out spring menu items on social media, and seems to be continuing a streak of recreating nostalgic favorites with a chef's eye: chicken and dumplings made from honey-roasted chicken and ricotta gnocchi, Thai-inspired ribs with celery root slaw and gluten-free carrot cake with cheesecake panna cotta and carrot marmalade.

Jeni's Ice Creams German Village

One sure harbinger of spring: the opening of Jeni's tiny German Village walk-up. Located next door to Brown Bag Deli, and within a short walk to Schiller Park, the 91-square-foot pop-up offers a small menu and only outdoor seating. But during its April-to-October run, it's the ideal spot to sample some of the city's favorite ice cream while wandering the Village.
