Food News: Jonathon Sawyer's SeeSaw ready for Short North debut

SeeSaw, the new live-fire restaurant and nightlife venue from Cleveland-based chef Jonathon Sawyer, Forward Hospitality Group and Cleveland Indians’ second baseman Jason Kipnis, is set to open Sunday, Aug. 25, at 906 N. High St. in the Short North. Sawyer, who won the James Beard Foundation Award for Best Chef Great Lakes in 2015, owns The Greenhouse Tavern and Noodlecat in Cleveland, his hometown. As reported by Cleveland Scene, Sawyer has described the new venture as “Greenhouse Tavern goes to college,” with a modern-American menu emphasizing veggie-based small plates.

Get ready D&D and German-style beer fans. After Gemüt Biergarten's planned opening was delayed last week by "The Government Bureaucromancers" (their words), the brewery announced today that it will open to the public Friday, Aug. 22, at 734 Oak St. Regular hours of operation are 11 a.m. to midnight Tuesday through Sunday.

The Columbus Summer Wine Festival takes place from 2 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, at Columbus Commons (160 S. High St.). Now in its second year, the event features samples from more than 20 Ohio wineries, live music, arts and crafts, and food trucks such as Cousins Maine Lobster, Pitabilities and others. The Brewery District bar Three Sheets (560 S. High St.) closed last week, but will reopen Friday, Aug. 23, as Columbus Axe Throwing.

Grass Skirt Tiki Room’s last day of business is Saturday, Aug. 24, at 105 N. Grant Ave. in the Discovery District.

The hot dog vendor Links-N-Lemonade, which serves a variety of beef hot dogs, fresh-cut fries and house-made lemonade, now has a brick-and-mortar shop at 128 Graceland Blvd. Hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Max Avon has been named executive chef at Columbus’ iconic Lindey’s Restaurant & Bar (169 E. Beck St.). Avon has been the chef de cuisine at Lindey’s since joining the German Village kitchen last year. He was previously the executive chef at The Whitney House in Worthington.

Columbus Tavern Group announced that it plans to open a third location of Yogi’s Bar & Grill. The restaurant group is targeting a September opening for the new neighborhood bar at 1126 W. Henderson Rd.

Ill Mannered Brewing Co. celebrates its fourth anniversary from 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, at 38 Grace Dr. in Powell. The party will feature tappings of several draft beers throughout the day, plus food trucks.

Woodhouse Vegan held its final pop-up inside Oddfellows Liquor Bar this week. The family-run business is shifting gears as it prepares for the opening of its permanent home, Woodhouse Vegan Café, in Italian Village.
