Food News: DiCarlo’s brings Ohio Valley pizza to Italian Village

It was a long time coming, but DiCarlo's finally opened a second location at 91 E. Fifth Ave. in Italian Village. DiCarlo’s is famous for its polarizing Ohio Valley-style (aka Steubenville-style) pizza — a square-cut pie whose cheese and toppings are applied (gasp) cold after coming out of the oven. DiCarlo's, which has another location in Hilliard, is part of the new Beeker Building, which houses apartments and Zaftig Brew Pub.  

Owners Brooke Mosser and her father, Bob Thomson, are opening REV Coffeehouse this Saturday, April 17, at 4485 Cemetery Road in Hilliard. The new shop replaces Crafted Drafts, which closed at the beginning of the pandemic. Mosser said REV will serve Crimson Cup Coffee’s Wayfarer Blend and espresso drinks. The food menu will include grab-and-go items such as breakfast wraps, sandwiches and pastries, with a particular focus on the needs of customers with dietary restrictions such as diabetic, ketogenic and gluten-free diets. REV is a career reset for Mosser, who said that she felt “a little out of touch with my community” after working for 20 years in corporate America as an IT manager. Being locked down last year because of COVID-19 caused her to reevaluate her life goals, leading her to open REV. She said the coffee shop will also serve as a “home base for community outreach,” starting with a focus on addiction and recovery services. The new café will be open 7 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Saturday. 

Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams’ collab ice cream with Dolly Parton, Strawberry Pretzel Pie, crashed the Jeni’s website last week. At noon today, Jeni’s attempted a do-over for the online release of the limited-edition flavor. It has already sold out. However, there’s one last chance to snag a pint or two when pre-orders open up for the flavor at 3 p.m. today. Those pints, 15,000 of them, are expected to be shipped in August. Writer Gabe Rosenberg was able to score a pint last week; read his review here.  

Starting Saturday, May 1, the Worthington Farmers Market will kick off its in-person outdoor market at The Shops at Worthington Place, 7227 N. High St. The market will take place Saturdays from 9 a.m. until noon. When the pandemic hit last year, the Worthington Farmers Market quickly pivoted to a pre-order, drive-through market. This year’s market won’t be 100 percent back to normal when it kicks off, with additional spacing and masks required. 

Dough Mama’s Brewery District café (730 S. High St.) has shifted to limited weekend hours, operating solely as a bakery and coffee shop. The café, which had been serving breakfast, lunch and dinner during the weekday hours, is now open 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Dough Mama’s Clintonville café, meanwhile, is getting both a menu and interior refresh and expects to reopen indoor dining in the near future.
