The South Side boutique bakery J’s Sweet Treats is set to open a second brick-and-mortar retail location, this one at Polaris Fashion Place (1500 Polaris Parkway). The bakery, founded by Juana Williams, will replace Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory on the upper level of the mall. In addition to the bakery’s signature cupcakes, lemon bars and shakes, the Polaris location will offer truffles, dipped apples, an expanded selection of grab-and-go cakes and gift items such as cards and candles. “Sometimes it feels surreal what we’ve built from a part-time side hustle in my kitchen,” Williams said in an announcement. Look for an early July opening. 

Columbus roaster Crimson Cup Coffee & Tea is celebrating its 30th anniversary this month with the release of a new, limited-edition coffee that blends Guatemalan and Peruvian beans: 1991 Blend. While supplies last, 1991 Blend can be purchased at Crimson Cup’s Clintonville and Upper Arlington coffee houses, as well as at The Hills Market Downtown and at Weiland’s Market. Throughout May, Crimson Cup will also unveil coffee drinks that celebrate the nostalgia of the '90s. 


After 10 months of carry-out only, plant-based restaurant Comune (677 Parsons Ave.) is reopening for dine-in beginning on Wednesday, May 26. The Schumacher Place restaurant, which opened in late 2018, will serve dinner only, for dine-in and carry-out, 5 to 10 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. Reservations will become available later this month. “I can’t tell you how excited I am to see people coming together to share our space, our food and our passion again,” said founder and operator Joe Galati in a press release. “It’s been a difficult year, but with the summer months approaching and the rate of vaccination increasing in Ohio, it leaves me hopeful.” Comune’s most recent head chef, Jacob Inscore, relocated to New York recently, with sous chef Zach Riddle serving as Comune’s interim head chef. 

After a long hiatus because of the pandemic, the culinary tour company Columbus Food Adventures is set to resume its Grandview Avenue, Old Worthington, German Village, Franklinton and Brewery District walking tours in mid-May. Each tour will be limited to a maximum of 10 people, in accordance with government guidelines, and masks will be required indoors. With in-person food tours sidelined for months, Columbus Food Adventures pivoted during the pandemic to Trust Fall, a weekly series of “surprise” dinners delivered to customers’ doors. According to co-founder Bethia Woolf (who is a Columbus Monthly contributor), Trust Fall will continue on a more limited basis and in-person tours will continue to be reintroduced monthly.
