Carfagna's Famous Market & Ristorante, the next iteration of the landmark Columbus market and butcher shop, is expected to open next week (“After Labor Day,” according to staff) at 1440 Gemini Place in Polaris. The new, nearly 30,000-square-foot Italian market replaces the iconic Carfagna’s Market on East Dublin-Granville Road, with an expanded grocery, deli counter, bakery, gelato shop, restaurant, wine store and liquor shop. Columbus Monthly has this look at Carfagna’s final days on OH-161.
Veteran Columbus chef Dan Varga is opening a butcher shop called The Hungarian Butcher this fall at 2177 W. Dublin-Granville Road. Varga has worked in several area kitchens, including Ray Ray’s, Oscar’s, Tucci’s, The Refectory, The Explorer’s Club and Double Comfort. The Hungarian Butcher also ran a pop-up out of Tatoheads Public House on Parsons Avenue back in 2017.
Demetrius Howard (aka Soop) and his longtime friend Randy Keyes plan to open FishBurger at 1808 E. Livingston Ave. this month. It will be the first brick-and-mortar restaurant for FishBurger, which specializes in fried fish sandwiches, chicken nuggets and hamburgers. Alive has the backstory here.
A hot dog joint called Tasty Dawg is now open for dine-in, carry-out and delivery at 107 S. High St. in Downtown Columbus. Restauranteurs Tom Dailey and Sung Jin Pak, who also own several Zoup! restaurants, are behind the new spot, which offers a variety of all-beef hot dogs on Bavarian pretzel rolls.
