Food News: Columbus baker returns to Food Network; Mama Nancy’s offers deep-dish pizza

Columbus pastry chef Aaron Clouse is competing on this season of “The Big Bake,” a holiday-themed baking show on Food Network. “The Big Bake” challenges contestants to create larger-than-life cakes over 5 feet tall. The episode featuring Clouse airs at 11 p.m. today (Monday, Nov. 29). This isn’t Clouse’s first turn on Food Network. The executive pastry chef for A&R Creative was a finalist on season 6 of the “Halloween Baking Championship.” Prior to that, he competed on “Guy’s Grocery Games” with Ajumama chef Laura Lee. 

Mama Nancy’s is now serving Chicago-style, deep-dish pizzas at 3495 E. Broad St. Customers can build their own pizza or order house specialties such as the 6-inch or 12-inch Oak Park Chicago Classic, featuring Italian sausage, Wisconsin mozzarella, red sauce and Parmesan cheese on Nancy’s butter crust. Oven-baked subs are also available. 

A Mexican restaurant named Adobe Agave has opened near Crosswoods at 8231 N. High St., formerly The Wine Bistro. The eatery serves margaritas, tacos, burritos, enchiladas, fajitas and more.  

New arrival CrepeStop is offering a variety of desserts at 2714 Bethel Road in Carriage Place Plaza. In addition to decadent French crêpes, the new spot offers smoothies, milkshakes, bubble waffles, cakes and ice cream sundaes. 

Temporary Closings

The ice cream cookie shop S’wich Social (869 N. Fourth St.) announced that its last day of the season will be Dec. 19. The Italian Village business plans to break for the winter and reopen in March.  


The historic North Market (59 Spruce St.) is hosting a Holiday Market from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Dec. 4. The event will feature holiday tunes, free hot chocolate, a roaming Santa (9:30–11:30 a.m.) and vendors selling gifts, holiday décor and more. 

The Athens-based brewery Jackie O’s is hosting a holiday pop-up market next month at its Downtown beer shop (171 N. Fourth St.). The Jackie O’s on Fourth Holiday Pop-Up will take place from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, at the corner of Fourth Avenue and Spring Street. Craft beer will be on tap while customers browse offerings from 10 Ohio vendors.
