Openings & Announcements 

Way Down Yonder Beignets & Coffee (386 E. Main St.) recently announced that its grand opening will take place Tuesday, Feb. 15 — just time for Mardi Gras on March 1. The Downtown beignets shop, inspired by Café du Monde, is the sister business of Way Down Yonder New Orleans Finest Restaurant, located at 3847 S. High St. on the South Side. 

Cameron Mitchell Restaurants plans to fill the former G. Michael’s Bistro & Bar space with an Italian restaurant, according to a report by Columbus Business First. G. Michael’s, a German Village institution for 23 years, closed last fall at 595 S. Third St. after being unable to reach a lease agreement. The new Cameron Mitchell eatery, which does not yet have a name, will be the company’s 23rd restaurant in Central Ohio.    

The food court lineup is beginning to fill out at the newest Saraga International Grocery, located at 2800 S. Hamilton Road. A Jamaican eatery called Mi Yaad is now open inside the grocery. In addition, the local catering business Kay’s Soul Food Kitchen will soon join the new Saraga location. Kay’s specializes in soul food dishes such as fried fish, meatloaf, mac ’n’ cheese, greens, banana pudding and more. Owner Kendra Talley is planning a March 1 opening, according to a post on Instagram

Two Columbus-based bartenders were recently named among the Top 100 US World Class Bartenders by the United States Bartenders' Guild. They include David Yee of Watershed Kitchen & Bar and Rebecca Monday of 614Tiki and the Ellis Adams Agency. Bartenders from the Top 100 compete for the title of 2022 US World Class Bartender. Events 

Tickets are now on sale for the Columbus Brew Festival, featuring more than 50 breweries offering samples of more than 150 seasonal beers. The event takes place Saturday, March 12, at COSI (333 W. Broad St.), where attendees will have access to exhibits and science demonstrations. General admission tickets allow entry from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. Early admission tickets allow patrons to enter the festival at 7 p.m. and include specialty beers poured for the first hour.
