Plans for the outdoor patio at Jackie O's on Fourth in Downtown Columbus

A year after first announcing plans for an indoor bar and an expansive, multitiered outdoor patio, Jackie O's on Fourth, located at 171 N. Fourth St. in Downtown Columbus, is finally moving forward on construction, having cleared final permitting hurdles.

“I cannot wait to tell our thousands of customers that, YES, you may in fact have a beer here!” John Clift, general manager of Jackie O's on Fourth, said in a press release.

Since opening in December 2020 in the space formerly occupied by Elevator Brewing Company, Jackie O's on Fourth has operated as a curbside retail. But even then, bigger plans were already in the works. During a January 2021 tour of the space, Clift highlighted the history of the building and the different ways the brewery could take advantage of its charms, which include massive skylights in the ceiling high above the brewing space, part of which will be converted to bar seating for patrons.

“We always wanted an older building, something with some character. … And it was always going to be a brewery," Clift said at the time. "There was never a second thought about the concept. It always had to be a place where the liquid was being made.”

In the press release, Jackie O's said the finished space will feature a 4,500-square-foot brewery and 5,000 square feet of public space, which will include a bar, a retail shop, a private, second floor event space and room for a future kitchen. (For the time being, the brewery said it plans to host two food trucks.) But the highlight of the brewery will be a massive, multitiered, 8,000-square-foot patio, a portion of which will be built under cover, allowing it to be utilized year-round.

The patio, along with what the brewery described as "a modest" indoor bar, are both tentatively expected to open in September.
