BalletMet Columbus Sleeping Beauty

BalletMet Columbus closes its season with the timeless story of Sleeping Beauty May 6-8. Set to the classic Tchaikovsky score, the ballet is a world premiere courtesy of artistic director Edwaard Liang and features lush, elaborate costuming and scenery. It showcases new staging but is a classic ballet in every sense of the word. Tickets start at $29.

CATCO is Kids, in association with the Columbus Recreation and Parks Department, offers a unique take on the traditional tale with The Kabuki Sleeping Beauty, May 13-22. An original from producing director Steven C. Anderson, the play utilizes the technique and style of the ancient Japanese art of Kabuki for a new telling of the tale. Tickets are $10 for children, $15 for adults.

The Columbus Symphony Orchestra will present a Pops Series concert May 14-15 featuring magical music from Disney movies. The orchestra will be joined by four Broadway-caliber vocalists to present music from Frozen (of course), The Little Mermaid, The Princess and the Frog, The Lion King, Cinderella, Aladdin and more. The live music will be complemented by video clips from the original films. Tickets start at $25.

Momentum-Excellence is a locally based dance program for youth, using movement (specifically, what is called NDI or National Dance Institute method) to teach school-age children basic principles such as teamwork, self-discipline and striving for excellence. The program's performing group of fourth-graders will present Wonderful Einstein, a fun program of music and dance, in morning and afternoon shows May 11 and 13. Admission is free.

The Pizzuti Collection is bringing back its popular Family Day Series, starting May 1. The event offers free admission to the contemporary art gallery and features guided children's tours at 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. An art-inspired scavenger hunt also is planned, and children will receive a sketchbook in which to create their own works of art. The Pizzuti Collection is a Short North gallery featuring works from the private collection of Columbus developer Ron Pizzuti and his wife, Ann Pizzuti.

Cirque du Soleil never fails to create the world's most fantastic productions, andTORUKis no exception. This new touring show, based on James Cameron's film Avatar, will visit Columbus May 11-15. This multimedia spectacle follows Toruk and friends as they try to save the sacred Tree of Souls. Imaginative visuals, puppetry, stage wizardry and a magnificent score create a totally immersive experience.
