Disney's “The Lion King” has proven to be anything but a “passing craze.” Nearly 20 years after it was released in theaters, the tale of Simba the young lion prince, who finds out that growing up and being king isn't exactly how he pictured it, is as fresh and beloved as ever. The Columbus Children's Theatre Advanced Performance Academy Youth Ensemble will perform “The Lion King KIDS,” a 30-minute, one-act musical based on Julie Taymor's Broadway adaptation, June 29 to July 2. Tickets are $13.

The Columbus Jazz Orchestra's summer JazZoo concerts at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium aren't designed specifically for young audiences. But what better place than the zoo to enjoy a night of classic jazz (tickets include zoo admission for the day), and what better band to play a program of swing-era greats such as Count Basie, Duke Ellington and Stan Kenton than the CJO? This year's dates are July 14 and 21 and Aug. 4 and 11. Tickets are $35.

The Friends of the Worthington Libraries sponsors an outdoor concert series each summer on the back lawn at Northwest Library. This year's series features the sounds of the Columbus-based Muppet Mayhem Band on July 28. The six-piece band plays all of your favorite Muppets tunes, from “The Muppet Show,” Muppets movies and even “Fraggle Rock.” The free concert begins at 7 p.m.

Among the great traditions of the Ohio State Fair are the All-Ohio State Fair Band and All-Ohio State Fair Choir. Through these ensembles, many of the state's brightest young musicians provide daily entertainment at the fair. But they also get time to shine on the big stage inside the Celeste Center. That combined concert, which is free with fair admission, will take place at 1 p.m. July 30.

It should also be pointed out, for fans of the franchise, that the Kidz Bop Kids will perform in the Celeste Center on July 27. Tickets are $15.

The Columbus Symphony Orchestra's Popcorn Pops series continues with “We've Got Rhythm” and guest conductor Stuart Chafetz at 7 p.m. July 21 at Columbus Commons. Celebrate music that gets you moving with help from the CSO. Tickets are $10.

Bonus: The CSO's Picnic with the Pops series features the always-exciting combination of the orchestra and the Ohio State University Marching Band July 28 and 29. Tickets start at $25, $10 for children.
