Summer Bucket List: Brittany's picks

Make sangria

At home

Sure, this is somewhat motivated by my desire to return to my April honeymoon in Puerto Rico and never leave. Since I can't, I'm going to gather up all the citrus, berries and mint I can find and try my hand at changing wine to iced, fruity refreshment.

Pro-tip: Splurge on orange-flavored liqueur, like Cointreau, to add more flavor - and alcohol.

Hit the dog park

At Whittier Peninsula Park

The dog days of summer just beg you to take Fido out for some good old fashioned sniffing and sprinting. My dog park of choice is the relatively new (and often overlooked) Whittier Peninsula Park, where there are separate spaces for small and large dogs to exercise, including tunnels, teeter-totters and other agility equipment.

Pro-tip: Looking for a dog beach? Alum Creek Dog Park is your best bet.

Get involved in Pelotonia

Throughout Columbus

The Columbus-based charity bike ride is five years running, and it's about time you joined the movement. Participate as a volunteer (which I've done for going on three years now), fundraiser ("virtual rider") or rider - with various distances along the route to Gambier to choose from.

Pro-tip: Have just an hour? Stand along South High Street and cheer as riders depart. It's guaranteed you'll be moved.

Get to a Gallery Hop

At Short North

Gallery Hop is one thing. Summer Gallery Hop is entirely another: Conversations carry from the patios, artists display wares street-side and the warmer temps means the party gets started so much earlier. Bring your sister, your boyfriend or the guy who just started at the office - there's a little something for everyone.

Pro-tip: Avoid parking frustrations by taking the bus; No. 21 will take you home (or at least up or down High Street) until 3 a.m.

Dine alfresco

At Milestone 229

Eating out of doors … sounds dreamy, doesn't it? I have a pretty serious obsession with the Scioto Mile - as the perfect backdrop for a run as well as engagement pictures - and it doesn't stop there. Take in the views while enjoying Milestone 229's fantastic plates.

Pro-tip: Milestone 229's happy hour is a good one, but know it's only valid at the bar.
