The Next Bronies?
It's official. The Brony phenomenon is here to stay. But could other retro cartoons become pop culture sensations with a "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic"-like update? Here are a few possibilities.
Adult fans: Rainbro Brites, or just Rainbros.
There's a whole bunch of secondary characters besides Rainbow Brite for fans to embrace. And let's not forget about the horses, Starlight and Skydancer. It's all about the horses, right?
"Jem" (aka "Jem and the Holograms")
Adult fans: Jemtlemen
Excitement, adventure, glamor and glitter, fashion and fame! Many preferred Jem to Rainbow Brite why not?! Jemwas the lead singer of a rock band that also occasionally kicked ass. Plus Jem has rival bands, The Misfits and The Stingerswith cool names like Pizzazz and Riot - for those who prefer to be villainous.
Adult fans: Bro-Bots (So-Hots for ladies)
The lesser version of Transformers finally gets their due.
Adult fans: Powerbuffs
Buttercup, Blossom and Bubble - don't let their names fool you - are total badasses, and the original contained a number of pop culture references, much like "Friendship is Magic." Unfortunately, this subculture would most likely consist of juice-heads.
"She-Ra: Princess of Power"
Adult fans: He-Ras.
Every guy loved "He-Man and the Masters of the Universe" growing up - "I have the power!" - how could it not work? Besides, there's the added allure of She-Ra being super-hot.
Adult fans: Pound Yuppies
"Pound Puppies" actually has an updated version of the original in 2010 - with Yvette Nicole Brown, of "Community" fame and Michael Rapaport, of Michael Rapaport fame. Ironically, this classic about unwanted dogs would be adopted by the privileged. Can't you see it now? Floppy ears, popped fluorescent collars and coke-fueled Furry sex.
